Aquarius GYM Bathrooms Plans and SpecificationsThe bathrooms in the Gymnasium of Aquarius need refurbishing. Here are the plans reviewed by the Construction Committee and the Board of Directors. The condominium invites qualified contractors to submit proposals.

Large debris falling from 7th floor damages car June 18, 2016
Last week-end during strong rain and winds large pieces of mortar fell from the 7th floor of Aquarius North Tower. Fortunately no one was injured. A parked car had its windshield smashed. Had this large piece of mortar hit a person a serious injury or even worse could happen.
After 40 years of the construction of Aquarius it is imperative that complete inspection and repairs be made. Considering what happened it is important to address the structure of the building in a timely and effective maner.
No more procrastination. Immediate action is required.

Rear windshield damaged by falling rock.
Several pieces of dangerous mortar spread out on the Valet Deck. Happily no person was walking by. No injuries to report at this time.

Aquarius 40 Year Recertification Preliminary Schedule
The 40 Recertification exercise of Aquarius has several phases.
The first one consisted of 6 presentations of engineering firms specialized in the assessment of multi store buildings needs to have a sound 40 year recertification in structural and electric areas.
The second phase was to select the firm to conduct the evaluation. In this phase Hillman Engineering was selected and presented the work schedule bellow. This second phase has an estimated time of completion of 201 days. For example if initiated June 9, 2016 it would be complete March 29, 2017.
The third phase will the hiring of a construction firm to conduct the repairs need to make Aquarius complaint with 40 Year Recertification requirements imposed by the Broaward County, Florida.

A new central Air Conditioning system is being installed at Aquarius. This system will
provide climate control for both Aquarius towers. It replace the old system and will provide fewer interruptions, more comfort in building hallways and less repairs.

The replacement is a complex operation that will require a crane to place the heavy equipment in the top of both buildings. During this replacement the hallways will have no air conditioning. The air conditioning in individual apartments are not affected.
The work schedule is from June 13 to mid July. No air conditioning in the hallways should last for two weeks.
Vmech is the firm conducting the work.

Some New Some Old at Aquarius – June 2016A pictorial display special for those that are up North.

The Aquarius Community got two beautiful metal baskets to embellish the Lobby. Thank you very much Judy Ort.

New chairs, sofas, baskets in the Lobby. If you look hard enough you can see the mermaid. Fountains on the right side.

The new library on the South Building. A very short low key campaign resulted in my books donated. The furniture is composed from chairs and tables that once were used in the Aquarius restaurant. When we find funds they will be replaced.

The Library works in an honor systems. Bring one book take one book. Your donation is appreciated. We now have a UD 4K 75 inches TV set. The first show was a success. Did you come?

A receiver previously used in the Cascade Room now gives generous theatrical sound for the new TV set in the Library.

A state of the art sound system is being installed in the Cascade Room. Similar scaled down sound system provides ambient music for Lobby, Bar, Aquarius Room and Hallway.

Billiards and Cards Room. Billiards tables got new covers. Some furniture from was brought from other locations. The result is maximum elegance with minimum investment. Yes, there is a ping-pong table available.
No doubt there still a lot to be done . Maybe the most important lesson is to try to keep all we have in its best shape. Let’s not leave anything is disrepair and let’s finish what remains to be done.
After all Aquarius is our home.

Muhammad Ali – one of the world’s greatest boxer and sporting figures – passed away at the age of 74.
He died late on Friday June 3, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was in the hospital since the day before.
His recent respiratory ailments had been compounded with his long suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
The funeral will be in Louisville, Kentucky, his home town. (BBC)

We understand that there have been abuses in the past concerning possibly undeclared short term leases of unit, but the proposed policies go overboard and are in fact not in accordance with the condo rules concerning occupancy.
These proposed policies ignore the needs of the unit owners who are not full time residents and are proposed at a time where these owners are not in residency (summer time).
Following is a list of the precise points with which we have issues:
We find the proposed policies very frustrating especially since we had no access to a regular parking space for more than 2 years.
There are other ways to control abuses by insisting that everyone be registered in the office, which we understand some people did not do in the past. We value the fact that we own a condo in a building which does not allow short term rentals and this was in fact important to us when we bought the condo. However we hope that the fob and parking policies will be modified to be liveable for everyone and not only the full time residents.
In addition the proposed forced use of valet parking will increase traffic and create more congestion near the lobby entrance and will make it more difficult exiting by car for those, like us, who have their parking space on the valet deck.
We are looking forward to our concerns being addressed.

What exactly is the Galaxy system? If you have multiple family FOBs – how does this work?
Answer: Galaxy is a system with software and hardware components that allow for access control of secured properties. It allows for more granular control and record of the use of FOBs or other automatic admission tokens such as stickers for vehicles. In this implementation we plan to have one FOB per authorized resident or visitor. There will be minimal changes the way business is conducted today. Once the authorized FOB is authenticated its use is very much like what we see today. The difference is that several classes of “Guests” will have a limited period of use. After that a renewal of his or hers FOB will require a quick re-registration.
The garage use will have more modern and functional RFID system. Again the use will be recorded and non authorized vehicles will use the Valet. There are very simple provisions for the authorization of rentals and loan vehicles.
The objective is maximum security with maximum convenience.
