Aquarius Neighbor Falko Fahrner left us September 7, 2018

Falko Fahrner

Falko Fahrner, Apartment 1401N, emigrated from Germany in 1965. He was married to Sylvia Fahrner for 32 years.  Sylvia had 2 sons from a previous marriage. Falko was considered by them and by their 8 children as the only father and grandpa they ever had.

He loved soccer. His favorite team was VFB of Stuttgart.

His passion for Porsches was remarkable. The last one he owned was a Porsche Carrera 911. He dreamed of getting one more, the Porsche Macan.

He was anxious to enjoy the new swimming pool of Aquarius. He believed he could benefit from some physiotherapy in the new pool.

Unfortunately after back surgery at the end of May, 2018, he did not seem to get back to feeling well enough to realize his dreams. Sadly his health did not cooperate.

Aquarius Beach Access Alternative

In October of 2017 we had the first proposal for the stairs leading to the beach from the Aquarius East deck. You can review them here.

Given the high cost and some anticipated permit difficulties the Engineering and Construction firms conducting the 40 Year Recertification exercise presented an alternative. This is a wood structure that goes in the North to South direction as the present concrete stairs go. The present concrete stairs structure besides having some structural issues do not conform with the Florida Construction Code enforced by the City of Hollywood.

John McCain was buried at the cemetery of the Naval Academy, Annapolis MD, September 02, 2018.  He was a Senator, a Soldier, a War Hero. His name was synonymous of Honor, Valor, Country before Party, Principle before Politics. He leaves a enormous space that will be hard to fill up. It is important to get acquainted with the equipment recently installed in the Aquarius Gym.

Orlando Herrera is going to offer a couple of 15 minutes walk through the new exercise machines.
These informal information sessions are scheduled for Wednesday  September 5th., 2018. There will be one session at 9 am and another at 7 pm.

Registration is not necessary by it would be nice if you put your name in the list at the Security Reception Desk. This way  Orlando  may know how many residents are interested in the proper use of the fitness equipment.

Our new fitness equipment is ready to use. Check it out. Looks like we have some great physical fitness equipment.

Have you seen the new machines?

Our neighbor and fitness enthusiast Orlando Herrera can give you some help with the use of the equipment. He is in the GYM early in the morning several days of the week. If you cannot find him you could call him on tel. 786-326-6586. Orlando is a fellow Aquarius resident that as helped in convincing the BOD to acquire these new machines. He took the lead in the selection and negotiation during the entire procurement process.

He is a fitness expert. Please be mindful that he is a fellow neighbor with a generous volunteer drive.  Please use discretion in appealing for his assistance.

Hollywood Beach Civic Association

The Hollywood Public Works Department reports that several  pieces of heavy equipment tractors and rakes are  operating along the Hollywood beach areas.

Please see full message below:

” The City beach maintenance crews and an outside contractor “Beach Raker” are

involved in an extensive seaweed clean up and removal operation utilizing tractors and various heavy equipment rakes.


This work will be occurring now and over the next approximately 4 weeks along the City’s beach.   

Most of the  

activities will be occurring in the morning hours.
An environmental permit from the County/State regulatory agency was obtained for this activity.
The City has experienced an extraordinary tonnage of seaweed this year, and the added resources are needed in order to maintain the beach.
 
The City and the CRA are sharing in the costs of this clean-up effort.


The Procurement Dept. and the City Manager’s office has assisted with the purchase requisitions/paperwork on this process . Funding is being provided from both the CRA and the Sanitation fund.

Finally the installation of cameras started at the Aquarius elevators. Taking advantage of the process to renewal of the elevators the first camera has been installed.

One of the most complex and costly component of the installation of cameras on the elevators is the cabling. A joint effort of our elevators renewal contractor Premier Elevators with our surveillance cameras system provider AlarmOne the successful installation went on with minimal cost.

All  elevators of the Aquarius Condominium, Hollywood, Florida, will have cameras. The first one is already working. August 2018 . Gabriel Zuniga was our friendly actor posing for the camera in the North Tower Service Elevators a few hours after it was installed.

Why cameras on the elevators? This is an important component of security and safety on the condominium complex. With the cameras it is possible monitor activities inside the cab. Also in the event of any health related issue assistance can be provided in a shorter time.

Aquarius South Tower is almost done

During the month of August several stacks are being returned to their users. By September the entire building exterior should be completed. What does it mean?

  • Residents may have furniture on the balconies and enjoy the breeze.
  • Residents may have tiles installed if desired (special waterproofing is required).
  • Impact Windows installation may proceed any work day if desired.
  • New Aquarius look may be appreciated from the outside.
  • Did I mention some absence of noise? Ah! Isn’t silence golden?!?!

Please use the balconies with care. If workers are present don’t go to the balcony or open your windows. Safety first! If you see swingstage lines it means work is in progress. Please avoid accidents.

What else to expect?

East Pool Deck:  Promised for before Christmas (it was before Thanksgiving but…)

North Tower: Completion expected for March or April 2019.  Some electrical problems, still being corrected, have caused a delay in the demolition of the balconies of lines 2 and 3. These are the last stacks partially standing. All other stacks have been demolished. Some stacks have curing new concrete already on 5th. level or higher.

Elevators: Very soon (a week or two) a second elevator (no cab finish yet) will be available for a more reliable and joyful ride in both towers. As soon this is done the renovation of the third elevator starts.

Hallways: Still in a planning phase. No date for the start-up of the renovation has been determined yet.
