Hollywood Broadwalk Extension Concept

BEACH WALK CONCEPT

for South Hollywood Beach Discussed,

as published in New Horizons, City of Hollywood Quarterly Newsletter, April – July 2023 http://www.hollywoodfl.org

“In March, Conceptual designs for a pedestrian walkway in the southern portion of Hollywood Beach from Georgia Street to Magnolia Terrace were presented to the City Commission and public. The Community Redevelopment Agency is applying for a $500,000 Florida Department of Transportation Recreational Trails Program Grant that would be used to help finance construction of a 15-foot wide walkway in this section of the beach. The public meeting was an opportunity for stakeholders to share their ideas and learn more about what could be possible for the southern portion of the beach. Elevated wood walkways, crushed shell and pavers were discussed, as well as costs, feasibility and a phased approach with a north and center section as part of the scope of the work. Additional opportunities for public input will take place as the project develops over time.”

The first phase would extend the Hollywood Broadwalk from the Summit condominium to just before the Wave. From Georgia Street to Magnolia Terrace, Keating Park.

The idea, seems to be, to piggyback in the already approved beach nourishment that entails beach enlargement with construction of protection dunes. Maybe more important than the Hollywood Broadwalk South extension would be if Aquarius would benefit from the protection of the dunes or the dunes building would stop at Magnolia Terrace. Aquarius beach strip is quite narrow. The construction of dunes and beach enlargement would be a positive factor protecting the property from king tides and eventual the periodical strong waves.

Here the CBS Miami TV presents an informative video of the proposed idea. It seems that the dunes are going to be built the walkway is still an idea under development.

Hollywood’s ‘walkway idea’ would extend beach walk to the south – CBS Miami.  The interview with the Hollywood Mayor at the end of the clip is very interesting.  click here:

Elections of the Aquarius Board: Results

Elections of the Aquarius Board: Results

The Management Office did not disclose the composition of the Board posts

It is believable that it will be the same organization of last year. All incumbents were re-elected, even the appointed ones.

So until we get this information the composition of the Board should be like this:

Kiet – President
Ella – Vice
Leon – Secretary
Liza – Treasurer
Cooper – Director-at-large

Votes that each candidate received January 17, 2023

Behar, Leon – – – – – – – – – – -139
Cooper, Philippe – – – – – – –  119
Fishman, Elzbieta (Ella)Jankowska  – 145
Gupta, Bhagwan – – – – – – – –52
Herrera, Orlando- – – – – – – – -42
Khalevich, Elizabeth (Liza) -169
Ngo, Kiet – – – – – – – – – – – – – -147
Ort, Judith – – – – – – – – – – – –  45
Rocha, Victor – – – – – – – – – – –  42
Satz, Linda – – – – – – – – – – – – 55
Zeltser, Mark- – – – – – – – – – – 10

Congratulations to the victorious candidates.

I have the sincere hope that the year of 2023 will be more productive than last year. The passage of time, inflation and the natural deterioration of the property are not helped by procrastination. Perfection is the enemy of good. Let’s do it!

My Favorites for the Board of Aquarius

My favorites for the Board of Aquarius

As you know we have elections for the Aquarius Board of Directors  January 17, 2023.

Here are my favorites candidates:

Leon Behar, 1404S,  lbmd26@aol.com,  (305) 450-7226: Friendly, easy to speak with. One of the most accessible Board members. He will not leave your questions without a courteous and educated response.

Elzbieta (Ella) Fishman 1104S,      jankowska.ella@gmail.com , (917) 515-0030: Very dedicated actual Vice-President. It seems that without her care little would have been done this past year of 2022. Excellent negotiator.

Bhagwan (Buck) Gupta,  804S (786)402-4269 bgupta1@yahoo.com: Past Board President for many years. Responsible to bring the building from 2007 status to a more recent status. Dedicated, motivated he will be an excellent contribution with his knowledge of Aquarius past improvements.

Orlando Herrera, 805S, (786) 326-6056, Oherrera07@gmail.com:  Dedicated, interested. Extremely helpful  for the renewal of Gym Equipment and Game Room improvement. He will bring dynamism and energy to the Board.

Elizabeth (Lisa) Khalevich, 508S, lizakhalevich@gmail.com, (917) 217-7732: Finally we have a Treasurer that is comfortable with numbers. She has shown us, with clarity, details in our accounts that sometimes get buried under the complexity of the accounting reports.

How about the other candidates?  For some I don’t have many details. For others I have too many knowledge of and feel very uncomfortable if they are  ever elected.

I favor candidates that show dedication, that live in the building most of the year and that are willing to work and play well with others. After all it is a Board. Also important, but it is not a deal breaker, is if they have the time to dedicate themselves to the complicated and laborious work of the Board of Directors and do not entertain a full time job elsewhere.

This, above mentioned group of candidates, should be an excellent choice to make the most of Aquarius. I am confident that they will perform to the best interests of the Aquarius Condominium community.

Laughing matter:

“I always say elections with more than one candidate are a very complicated.”
